Sustainable Land Use

The Lifes2Good Foundation is proud to have supported Community Law & Mediation (CLM) in commissioning a landmark report, Constitutionalising Environmental Rights: Practical Insights into the Irish Context, authored by Dr. Orla Kelleher and Dr. Mary Dobbs. This research responds to the Citizens’ Assembly on Biodiversity Loss’s 2023 recommendation to enshrine a right to a healthy environment in the Irish Constitution.

The report explores how environmental rights—both substantive and procedural—can be effectively designed and communicated to gain public support in a future referendum. It also considers legislative alternatives and the broader socio-economic context, including housing and public health, to strengthen the case for constitutional change.

Launched at the Royal Irish Academy in June 2025, the event featured a diverse panel of legal experts, activists, and policymakers, highlighting the importance of civil society readiness and strategic advocacy. The report is already informing debate among legislators, academics, and NGOs.

This project reflects Lifes2Good’s commitment to environmental justice and long-term systems change. We are grateful to CLM for their leadership and look forward to seeing how this work continues to shape Ireland’s environmental future.
