Talamh Beo is Ireland’s member-led agroecology and food sovereignty organisation, working to build farmer-led, locally rooted, ecologically sound food systems through policy development, advocacy, and movement-building. Founded in 2016, the organisation has grown into a distinctive voice for small-scale food producers and those advocating for a fundamental shift in how Ireland uses its land and feeds its people.
Over 2026–2027, the Lifes2Good Foundation is supporting Talamh Beo through a critical phase of organisational development and policy ambition. Our funding enables the creation of key new roles that will allow the organisation to consolidate its internal systems and translate agroecological principles into coherent, implementable proposals for Irish policymakers.
The programme is built around advancing the formal recognition of Local Food Producers as a distinct category in Irish policy, including the development of a Basic Income proposal tailored to their needs. They are also developing an Irish Agroecology Framework that connects food sovereignty principles with practical CAP reform positions alongside several other exciting initiatives.
This is also a moment of international visibility for Talamh Beo. In November 2026, the organisation will host the General Assembly of the European Coordination Via Campesina and a high-level public event on the future of food and farming in Europe, timed with Ireland’s presidency of the EU.
It is exciting to support Talamh Beo as it works to strengthen its foundations and sharpen its policy voice. The questions it is asking about – who gets to farm, how food systems are governed, and what role local producers play in Ireland’s future, are central to a healthier relationship with people and the land.
