The Lifes2good Foundation’s partnership with University of Galway’s Active Consent programme continues to make meaningful progress in the United States, where the need for open, evidence-based conversations about sexual consent and healthy relationships remains strong. Following monitoring visits to several leading universities, including Notre Dame, Rutgers, Columbia and Northern Illinois, the programme has been recognised for its innovation, sensitivity, and adaptability to local contexts. Its focus on preventing sexual violence, supported by engaging peer-education and participatory learning, has resonated deeply with American students and faculty alike.

Despite a complex political climate and pressures on universities to curtail diversity and inclusion initiatives, Active Consent has managed to expand thoughtfully and effectively. By maintaining a low-profile, evidence-led approach and adapting resources for different campus cultures, the team has demonstrated how Irish expertise in consent education can contribute to global best practice. Feedback from U.S. universities confirms the programme’s materials are more advanced and impactful than many domestic alternatives, helping to fill a critical gap in student wellbeing and campus culture.
The Foundation remains committed to supporting Active Consent’s careful and sustainable growth in the U.S., ensuring long-term impact while balancing innovation with prudence. Together, the Lifes2good Foundation and the Galway team are continuing to strengthen international collaboration, enhance student safety and wellbeing, and champion respectful, empowering conversations around consent in higher education
